TIPS for password security

1. DO NOT make your password the same as your username!
2. DO NOT post your password on the pc, monitor, or any conspicuous place. 
3. DO NOT have your username or any part of your username as part of the password.

a.      Example: gcox1, or 1cox, or !gc2

 

4. DO NOT make a blank password.
5. DO NOT use keyboard stokes that are in a line

a.      Example: asdfgh, or 123456, or poiuyt, or !@#$%^

 

6. DO NOT use words directly from any dictionary of any language.

a.      Example - Bad: Champions

b.      Example - Modified: Ch@mp!0ns

c.      We recommend made up or random passwords not modified word passwords.

 

7. DO NOT post your password on the pc, monitor, or any conspicuous place.
8. DO NOT share your accounts or passwords with anyone.
9. DO USE a length of 6 or more characters
10. DO USE a combination of letters, numbers, and shift-characters (!@#$%^&*).

a.      Example - b7pa3$F

 

11. DO get into the habit of changing your password on a regular basis.

a.      Example - Every 30, 60 or 90 days

b.      Example - Each Academic Quarter

Changing Your Password
To change your Novell account password:

• Log into your account
• Press CTRL + ALT + DEL
• Click on the "Change Password" button
• Enter your old password on the appropriate line
• Enter your new password on the appropriate lines
• Click on the OK button

Confirm that your new password works:

• Reboot your workstation and login in with your Novell account username and your new password.
