For Faculty
[ Reserves | Reading Room | Account Photocopiers | Authorization Cards ]
Reserves
Faculty may restrict the use of library items by placing them on Course Reserve. SEL primarily handles reserves for courses taught in the Colleges of Engineering and Mathematical and Physical Sciences, but all departments are welcome to utilize this service.
For reserves please follow the "Fair use" provisions of U.S. copyright law .
Course Reserves may include OSU Libraries' materials, personal copies of books, and photocopies of articles prepared by the instructor. Course Reserves are a staff-provided service available 8 a.m.-11:30 p.m. daily. Because items needed for reserve may be in circulation, please submit closed reserve requests three (3) weeks in advance.
Open Reserves consist of the GEC Textbook Project provided by the partnership between the Undergraduate Student Government and OSU Libraries. The GEC textbooks are located on the shelves next to the main entrance and are available for use 24 hours a day. They can be used by students for any length of time. However, they may not leave the building.
Submission
We cannot accept Reserve lists over the telephone, but you may submit your completed list in one of the following ways:
Submit a Course Reserves list using the Online Request Form
OR you may come to SEL and fill out a paper request form.
Make sure to include author, title, edition and publication year, and the OSU call number for each item. Also, please indicate the quarters the course will be taught and the instructor's name. OhioLINK books cannot be placed on Reserve.
Materials such as reprints and photocopies can be placed on Electronic Reserves if copyright clearance has been obtained. Electronic Reserve materials are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and multiple users can view the same materials at the same time. Links to faculty specified web sites (URLs) can be included as well. For more information, visit the Electronic Reserves Office site, call them at 292-6448, or visit them in SEL 002.
Other Tips
Personal or department copies can be placed on Reserve if the libraries do not own the materials you need for your course. Please record your name, course number and return address inside the front of the book. Please contact the SEL Circulation Desk about arrangements for returning personal copies.
While most reserve materials may be borrowed for only 2 hours, you may specifically request a 3-day or 7-day loan period for certain items.
Faculty Reading Room
SEL 270 is reserved for use by faculty in the College of Engineering and the College of Mathemaical and Physical Sciences. Access code is required; inquire at reference desk.
Faculty Authorization Cards
OSU faculty and staff may authorize one or more persons to borrow and request library materials under the authorizing person's name. The authorizing person is responsible for all transactions by the designated individuals. Please contact any OSU library for more information.
For Visitors
OSU Libraries are open to the public. Anyone may use the collection on site and persons with a currently valid OSU ID may borrow materials. Maps to campus and for parking are available. SEL is a Patent and Trademark Depository Library and provides print resources plus the computer based CASSIS system.
