Periods of Japanese History
[edit]
Periodization of Japanese Art History
Periodization is a very controversial matter, with much disagreement among historians. Also, there are variations according to academic field. Here are links to some examples:
- Common Japanese Period Subdivision (according to Library of Congress) http://www.wam.umd.edu/~tilakh/PeriodProj/JapPeriodSubdiv.html
- Historical periods of Japan (Wikipedia) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_history
- Art historical periods of Japan (Wikipedia) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_art
The Ohio State University Libraries follows the Common Japanese periodical subdivision tables (see above). However, these wiki pages are set up according to art historical conventions followed both in Japan and around the world. Where there is disagreement about dates, links are provided to sources with more information.
