Big Changes @ the OSU Libraries

  • The William Oxley Thompson (Main) Memorial Library is closed.
  • The temporary Ackerman Library is open.
  • Free bus service to the Ackerman Library and the Book Depository is available.
  • Rare Books and Manuscripts has been moved to the Book Depository.
  • New study spaces are availabale at the Sullivant Library, the Science and Engineering Library, the Ohio Union and the former Long's Bookstore.

The Thompson (Main) Library, 1858 Neil Avenue, is closed for a three-year renovation.

The Library’s services, collections and staff are available at the Sullivant Library and the new Ackerman Library. Closing the library allows the renovation to be completed safely and in the shortest time possible. When it reopens in the fall of 2009, the Thompson Library will provide a dynamic environment for study, research and discovery. The building's unique architectural features will be restored.

A new temporary library, the Ackerman Library, 600 Ackerman Road, is open.

The Ackerman Library includes much of the Thompson Library’s collection and subject specialist librarians. Microforms, government documents, maps and international study materials are at the Ackerman Library; circulating books are at the Ackerman Library. The Ackerman Library will also offer computers and study space. Ackerman Library Hours:

The Sullivant Library, at 15th Avenue and High Street, offers the essential library services remaining on central campus that were previously provided by the Thompson (Main) Library, currently closed for renovation. (Materials previously stored in the “stacks tower” at Thompson have been relocated to the Ackerman Library.) Sullivant Library is the new home for current periodicals and newspapers, videos and DVDs, reference books and non-circulating bound journals in the humanities and social sciences. Librarians at Sullivant provide reference and research assistance. The library offers quiet study space for individual study, along with group work space for collaborative projects.

The Sullivant Learning Commons, on the second floor of the Sullivant Library, offers:

  • Individual Computer Workstations, with more than 30 software programs.
  • Group Workstations to accommodate small groups working together on projects.
